Ever notice how intellect, data, statistics and spreadsheets often have the last word? They drive actions and decisions, setting the trajectory of a project, an initiative, or…a life? Sometimes you go along with it even though you have a feeling… it doesn’t feel quite right, but you can’t name what it is, so you ignore the feeling. Melanie Dewberry says this: that feeling is wisdom trying to speak to you. It’s soul talk. There’s nothing wrong with intellect… it’s useful. Intellect without wisdom, lacks guidance. Wisdom is the language our soul speaks. Why do we ignore it?
Melanie has a master’s degree in Asian Economic Development & Political Risk. She lived and worked in China teaching grad students How to Do Business in Latin America, and worked with the Chinese government on the pricing of goods in the Latin America markets. She studied multiple languages, living and working in each of those countries. She knows what it’s like to be steeped in data and intellect.
Traveling and experiencing the world’s cultures, she began to see what we have forgotten: how to learn from our elders, from their storied words, from the essence of experiences. We have forgotten how to weave that learning with the data, facts, and logic to help guide and inform our actions. We have forgotten…and Melanie wants us to remember…to tap soul talk, our sacred self and our purpose in the world.
