Global Leadership: We’re All Just Human, After All
Cheryl Esposito welcomes Dr. Jane Horan, author, speaker, and global thought leader in cross-cultural leadership, building inclusive and engaged work environments, and the positive use of workplace politics. Based in Asia, Jane is founder of The Horan Group, a strategic consultancy emphasizing leadership acceleration & global team development. She is author of I Wish I’d Known That Earlier In My Career: The Power of Positive Workplace Politics and her new book: How Asian Women Lead: Lessons for Global Corporations. This latest endeavor provides a look into the challenges and obstacles women in Asia face in reaching top levels in leadership. Through her research narrative, Jane shares stories of family support that can make or break a career; unconscious cultural assumptions in global corporations that influence opportunities given to some and not others, or that keep information from flowing up, down, or across the organization.
Dr. Jane Horan says, “Leadership is an experience, not defined by a particular theory or set of skills or cultural assumptions.” The story of her research and writing of How Asian Women Lead: Lessons for Global Corporations is as meaningful as the women leader’s narratives in the book. As she spent time with these women to capture their leadership story, Jane realized some of her own unconscious assumptions – i.e.: about leadership itself, about a specific cultural viewpoint, the meaning behind a simple word. Assumptions prevent our relating to one another, the human-to-human connection that helps us see the person. This book is the work of a thought leader practicing what she teaches – telling the story with moment-to-moment awareness of the possibility that one’s unseen assumptions and beliefs are influencing our interpretations, agreements, and actions. Indeed, this may be the only way to succeed in our ever-growing global village. Are you ready to lead in today’s global environment? Join Cheryl Esposito and Dr. Jane Horan to begin your journey!
