Genpo Merzel roshi – Being Leader, Being Human

Cheryl Esposito welcomes Genpo Merzel Roshi, a Zen Master, Buddhist priest and author of several books including Big Mind/Big Heart: Finding Your Way and The Path of The Human Being: Zen Teachings on the Bodhisattva Way. Genpo Roshi’s adult life has been about waking up to our essential nature, our True Self. Throughout, his purpose and his passion have remained the same: to deepen his own clarity and to assist others to awaken and realize their true nature. In 1999 he created what he named the Big Mind Process, later also known as Big Mind/Big Heart. Philosopher Ken Wilber called it “arguably the most important and original discovery in the last two centuries of Buddhism.” The life of a spiritual teacher- a leader- is not without its challenges. Often it is expected that the teacher – or the leader- is above reproach; that there should be no failing. How does one reflect the spiritual teachings – or the principles of the organization- all the while living a human life?
