Imagine falling in love with the ocean. Feeling safe and free and nurtured by something so vast, yet, so intimate. By the time Kimi Werner was 5 years old, she knew the ocean as home. It shaped her spirit for living and her reverence for all of life.

Also known as “the woman who rode the back of a great white shark”(yes, she did!), Kimi Werner is a master at something else, too: the power of hearing her own voice.

Growing up on the Hawaiian island of Maui, Kimi lived in sync with nature, spending days outside with family, gathering food from ocean and land, having what she called a magical childhood.

Her love of the ocean and freediving became a path to success, and later a learning that success does not always equal happiness. Her rise to national spearfishing champion shifted the joy of personal accomplishment to an almost obsessive level competitive rivalry.
